In early 2010 it was our mandate to achieve BRC certification by the end of 2011. Our company had just experienced a devastating fire in September of 2009 which destroyed our production facility, including all of our existing documentation, policies and procedures.
GCP consulting was hired in June of 2010 and had a daunting task ahead of them assisting us in building all of our programs from the ground up. GCP guided us in creating a complete Prerequisite Program based on the CFIA FSEP model, and in January of 2011 Pius Gasser took our account over personally and began to introduce us to HACCP. Our HACCP plan was up and running within 4 months, at which point Pius began to introduce us to BRC.
We had 2 facilities to be audited before the end of 2011 (one in August in the other in November) and both facilities passed achieving an A rating. One of those "A"'s was achieve with zero non-conformances.
As a company we are very proud of these achievements which we only made possible by the hard work and experience of Pius Gasser and GCP consulting. The guidance and training given in creating our programs was second to none, and from day one Pius was available to answer questions and ensure we were kept on the right track.
GCP consulting is highly recommended to any company that wants to improve upon existing programs or to implement new ones.

In 1998, Mr. Pius Gasser made a presentation to the Bakery Production Club of Ontario explaining the importance of food safety as it pertained to the baking industry, in particular the standards of HACCP. Impressed with the forward thinking of Pius and taking a proactive role, our President Dave Miles decided it was appropriate for Mimac Glaze Limited to become HACCP compliant. Following the GFTC/AIB guidelines he worked with Dave Clayton who is a consultant to the Food & Nutrition industry to develop a HACCP plan that was manageable and best suited to Mimac Glaze Limited. In 1981, GCP Consulting was contracted to implement that plan, and subsequently Mimac was audited by SGS Canada and achieved a Gold Standard in June, 2002.
GCP Consulting has maintained the HACCP program at Mimac Glaze Limited since its inception by re-writing and updating policies and making timely adjustments, while maintaining a workable and manageable plan. As Food Safety issues evolve, GCP Consulting has continued to make changes to the Living Document that we refer to as our HACCP Plan that are adopted by both management and production staff. GCP Consulting continues to revise and update staff on-site staff training, and their consultants are competent, thorough and work independently to ensure our audits are always achieving the highest possible levels whether through GFTC, AIB, SGS and most recently with Steritech.
At Mimac Glaze Limited, we are proud of our accomplishments and the high ratings we receive from our customer’s Third Party Audits, yet we attribute that part of our +30 years of success to the support we have received through GCP Consulting.

I remember back in the late 1990’s, we were getting requests from several of our customers to become HACCP compliant. At the time, we were relatively unfamiliar with the term and uncertain where to begin. Fortunately, we turned to a good friend, Pius Gasser at GCP Consulting Ltd. He calmly reassured us that he would walk us through the process and prepared a budget for the project that made sense to us.
It has been almost a decade since we first started talking about making our food plant HACCP compliant. Now that I get a chance to reflect back on the process, I truly believe that without the staff at GCP Consulting Ltd., I don’t believe we could have developed, implemented and continue to maintain a high quality HACCP Plan at our plant.
